March 17, 2004

The US Department of Defense has hired IBM, Forbes reveals:

The Department of Defense said last year it wanted its suppliers to start attaching radio frequency identification tags to their goods by Jan. 1, 2005. [...]

Armonk, New York-based International Business Machines Corp. [IBM] said that under the three-year consulting contract, it will help the department develop by June 30 a strategy for using the technology to improve its supply system and inventory management.

IBM will oversee pilots of products during the next few months and help to implement the radio frequency identification, or RFID, technology after the deadline passes. It will also help it determine funding.
